Life is filled with uncertainties and challenges, and how we react in those moments has a direct impact on our well-being. This month we dive into the concept of the “Window of Tolerance,” a framework that sheds light on our tolerance to stress, and the impact it has on our decision-making, emotions, and social interactions.
The term Window of Tolerance refers to our individual capacity to tolerate stress and trauma. It's not a fixed state but rather something that can be narrowed or widened through our repeated experiences. And, just like everyone has their own unique personality traits, we all possess a personal window of tolerance that influences how we respond when life doesn’t go as planned or when we encounter conflict. By making intentional choices that aid neurobiological recovery, we can actively train our minds and bodies to increase our capacity to handle stress.
